Frequently Asked Questions
THE APP AND ITS USE
Question 1: Once it’s all installed as recommended, how do I start?
Answer 1: Please read the note 13 of the page “HOW IT WORKS”.
Question 2: Once ready to push, what do I do?
Answer 2:
Once ready to push, what do I do?
First make sure the SimsATC app is connected to your simulator, then depending if you are using the DFAULT or RADIOS or CPNF mode you will proceed as follows:
- DEFAUT: It’s your copilot the one who will handle the radios, but just for the push and initial taxi you will need to press on your PTT or Manual Play in the app once. This is because your copilot doest know when you are ready for those two maneuvers. The rest will be automatic.
- RADIOS: You will handle all communications from gate to gate. Start communicating with ATC using your assigned PTT. You must read back ALL instructions.
- CPNF: You will handle the radios once airborne until “cleared to land” by the tower. The rest will be similar to the DEFAULT mode.
Question 3: Is SimsATC communications weather information accurate?
Answer 3: No, Altimeter settings, winds and any other weather information belong to the flight from which the recordings are coming which means they are not current. You may read back the altimeter setting for practice purposes only but you must always set and use the current ATIS or weather data coming from your flight simulator. (Double checking is an essential part of our profession as pilots in real world and this lack of feature will let us simulate that very well).
Question 4: If a go-around is executed, how is SimsATC going to work?
Answer 4: You will have to fly to a previous flight plan fix or position and once inbound, press the BACK button until you have an approaching reading in the distance indicated in the app, that would set you up in a synchronized segment to resume your flight.
Question5: Can I request a flight level change or deviation?
Answer 5: SimsATC is working to add up this feature, but currently you are expected to follow a very standardized flying. Deviations for weather and even flight level changes are possible on your own but it’s important to return to your route as soon as practical and press the MANUAL PLAY button if you don’t have the green light and/or no approaching readings in the app. These conditions would indicate that you skipped a fix and you need to start the next segment manually.
Question 6: What if pressing my assigned PTT button doesn’t work.
Answer 6: Check that you haven’t left your mouse pointer inside the app and press inside your airplane’s cockpit screen.
If the problem persists, double check your set up and make sure all the required apps are running.
Question 7: How do I pause?
Answer 7: You must pause both your simulator and SimsATC, then resume both as well once ready to continue your flight.
GENERAL
Question 1: Does SimsATC have plans to add visual traffic injection to its app?
Answer 1: Yes, the complexity of this feature will require some time to be implemented. SimsATC will not introduce a feature until it works totally flawlessly.
Question 2: Is SimsATC a substitution to VATSIM, IVAO, PILOTEDGE and other platforms?
Answer 2: No, SimsATC complements with any other platforms in whichever area may be needed. For example, VATSIM is well known to provide a very comprehensive simulated ATC experience during certain times at certain locations, but it becomes very weak at others where SimsATC might become a perfect complement.
Question 3: Is SimsATC dedicated to simulate commercial airline ATC communications?
Answer 3: Yes, SimsATC is dedicated to simulate the airline ATC communication and allows other platforms to dedicate their services to simulate general aviation ATC communications.
Question 4: How realistic are the SimsATC communications?
Answer 4: Totally realistic, SimsATC makes all efforts to maintain the transmissions as original as they come. This guarantees to execute a flight exactly as it was flown in the real world.
Question 5: Is SimsATC beneficial to train real world pilots on ATC communications?
Answer 5: Absolutely, it will help out new pilots to become more familiar with the real world ATC communications, it will keep currency of real world pilots and it will give a high level of entertainment to anyone who wants to experience ATC communications exactly as an airline pilot does in real world.
Question 6: What happens if I recognize my voice in one of the recordings?
Answer 6: ATC transmissions are PUBLIC transmissions reason why they become available to be listened and/or recorded by the general public. This statement is acknowledged and accepted by every individual transmitting on the ATC radio communications at the time they obtain their FCC certifications. All pilots and ATC controllers are required by regulation to possess a valid FCC certification in the USA or similar in many other countries before they can serve in their respective positions.
Question 7: Is SimsATC getting any compensation for recommending third party products like Talk to Toggle, Joy2Key, etc.?
Answer 7: No, SimsATC recommends the use of these products only.
Question 8: Are the flight-ATC communications sequencings exactly like in real world?
Answer 8: SimsATC makes everything possible to maintain the recorded ATC communications as original as they are, offering an extremely realistic outcome.
Question 9: Are all the flight recordings different from each other?
Answer 9: No, some of them may share same recordings for some portion of the flight. Example, a flight that Departs from runway A1 and lands on runway B1 may share its taxi and departure recordings with another flight on the same route that departs from runway A1 but lands on runway B2.
Question 10: May I replace some recordings with my own ones?
Answer 9: Yes, remember that SimsATC does not charge for the recorded transmissions (which are public and available to be recorded by any individual in USA and many other countries around the world), you can perfectly replace any recordings with your own ones.
Question 11: Are SimsATC recordings and sequencings tested by real world pilots?
Answer 9: Yes, SimsATC uses real world airline pilots who know exactly how the ATC system works in real world in order to guarantee a full reliability of every single flight.
